Homemade Strawberry Jam
Ingredients:
- 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 lemon, juiced and zested
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions:
In a large pot, combine the chopped strawberries, sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice
Give the mixture a half-hour to settle so the juices can come out and the sugar can dissolve
Fill the pot with water, then turn the heat up to medium-high
Stirring frequently, bring the mixture to a boiling point
After the jam starts to boil, lower the heat to medium and simmer it for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the consistency is reached and the jam thickens
If any foam appears on the surface, skim it off
After taking the pot off the stove, allow the jam to cool slightly
Maintaining a 1/4-inch headspace, transfer the jam into half-pint jars that have been sterilized
To guarantee appropriate preservation, cover the jars with lids and process for ten minutes in a water bath canner
Before storing the jars in a cool, dark location, let them cool completely
Savor your homemade strawberry jam as a sweet topping or on toast or pancakes
